EVERYBODY knows craigslist.org!!!!! Maybe not everyone. Craigslist.org provides a great ‘classifieds’ website for the online community. In 2006, on my first visit to San Francisco I took one of the city tours. Among the many surprises was the: ‘look to the right, ladies and gentlemen, there is the location of craigslist’ statement of the tourbus driver. My thought: Really? It was a nondescript building. Craigslist is there??
My December 2008 trip to San Francisco provided an opportunity to revisit craigslist.org’s location. Actually, it was a pilgrimage.
I am not familiar with riding the subway/metro. [No public transport to speak of where I live. I am getting better as I travel to cities with great public transport.] I figured out how to get from Union Square to Sunset Beach (had help). This was a BIG adventure. Field Trip.
Li, a craigslist.org staffer, came down to see who had rung the doorbell. I told her I was a tourist from Virginia on a craigslist pilgrimage. She thought that was funny. Li was very gracious to answer my questions. We chatted for about 6 or 7 minutes. She did not want me to take her picture; did it anyway. I thanked her and Craig for her time.
The fabulous business that is craigslist.org is run from this unassuming building in that ‘not fabulous’ Sunset Beach neighborhood. Who needs a fancy address???? Not them.
